My Mum Made It

I fell in love with My Mum Made It about a year ago as I came across the owner, Nyree's, Polyvore page. Her sets of course were flawless and consisted of simplistic styles and colour schemes I adore. As I browsed the items in her sets, I couldn't help but notice that many came from My Mum Made It. Intrigued, I followed the link to Nyree's website and lusted over every item my eyes grazed over.
To give you guys a bit more insight on the label so you can fully understand the extent of excellence it consists of, I got into contact with the lovely Nyree and asked her a few questions:

1. How did you come up with the name 'My Mum Made It'?

When I first started my store I was hand making my own 1950's inspired dresses out of old bed sheets I found in op shops. When I was thinking of a name, I thought it would be funny if my store was called My Mum Made It (Seeing as all my items were and looked hand made) so that whenever my customers got asked where they got their garments from, they could reply with "My mum made it" and it would sort of be our little inside joke! Obviously my store has evolved and I have kept the name but I still find it humorous and i've become quite attached!

2. Do you buy items for your shop or do you produce them yourself? If you do buy, what type of items do you look for to sell to your customers?

My store is full of a mixture of bought in products and also items that I hand make myself. I do not focus on brand names or hyped up trends. Instead I like to sell unique pieces that make others take a second look and allow them to question where it's from. I love the idea of wearing clothing that you can't find in your local mall and i'm sure most people like to own those special items that they know other people can't so easily find!

3. Is there a team behind My Mum Made it, or do you solely run it yourself?

My Mum Made it is owned completely by myself and I employ a few agents who live outside of Australia to work with me on finding and providing unique clothing to sell as well as shipping partners. I like to have complete control over my store and this makes it a lot easier to allow the public to also have their influence in what I sell.

4. What are some of your favourite items from your shop?

As we are constantly getting new garments in the store I am always fascinated in whatever is new. Although, a couple of items that have been a solid favourite for a while is the 'Crocodile detail handbag' and the 'Raw edge pullover sweater'. They are just the two items I find myself always reaching for. Definitely two necessities of mine and can't really go without them!

5. Have you always been interested in fashion? If so, did you ever dream of owning your own store when you were younger?

As far as I can remember I have always been into fashion. My Grandma used to own an interior design store and whenever I would visit her I would go into the back room of her shop and dig through the scrap bins and she would teach me how to sew things from the old fabric. I was always fantasised about owning my own store because I thought it was so cool what she did and the freedom of owning her own business as it is appealed to me. My parents also owned their own business so it was really all I was used to. I couldn't ever imagine working for someone else and I have always had very strong visions about what I wanted to do.

6. Do you plan on opening a physical MMMI store or do you plan on keeping it as an online boutique?

I have considered opening up physical store fronts but the way things are moving forward these days virtually, it only seems practical to focus on my online store. I love all things futuristic and innovative so i'm probably always the first person to jump on something new. I'm also a bit of a tech head so that mixed with fashion, mixed with business is right up my alley!

Wang's Launderette

From Tie-Dye to Combat Boots, what can't Alexander Wang do? Wang's new Resort 2015 collection is very graphic with his signature sense of street wear.  He has continued to use translucent like fabrics as seen in collections past, yet has kept them grounded enough with leather accessories and garments to maintain their appeal of lightness.
I have yet to be unimpressed with any collection from the god that is Wang. From his Spring/Summer 2013 collection on, I've been a huge fan. This collection alone makes waiting for his H&M debut in November even more difficult!

Mauve Muse

I came across Vogue Australia's July cover the other day and immediately was hooked on the dusty pink/mauve jacket seen above on Miranda Kerr. The colour is not only light enough to be considered spring, yet dark enough to be considered fall/winter. It's a colour that would look radiant on anyone and I'm not the only nor the first to come to such conclusion. Designers such as Burberry and Chloé both used the pink tone throughout their Fall 2014 collections, which will easily carry into Spring 2015.
